Qualifies as a pilot at Farman’s Flying School in France. The first pilot to vol plane (glide). Winner of first Schneider Trophy. Runner-up world altitude record. Resigns commission and joins British & Colonial Aeroplane Company. First military reconnaissance flight. Injured in flying accident in Malta.

Dies at Lochrosque Castle, Scotland from effects of injuries.
